At archaeological dig in Turkey, the ancient site of Gobekli Tepe is discovered to have housed an ancient advanced civilization with technology beyond our understanding. One book in particular, The Gospel of Hunger, is read aloud as the world leans into its various dysfunctions. Cults across the world spring forth dedicated to the mysterious gods of the ancient artifacts. As their ecstatic war drums bludgeon their fragile mental states, a mysterious force is called forth out of the Deep. A force of cosmic destruction and entropy undeviating from the Void. This God, it is discovered only after the deluge of evil sweeps the world- is named Chthon. Whether by his doing or coincidence, I cannot say but seemingly simultaneously, a plague the likes of which humans have never seen starts to infect the cities. And then, the countryside. There is no escape as these deranged, flesh eating thralls soon overwhelm the very places they once inhabited before infection. It has been debated whether the plague causes extreme rage or kills the host after infection- nobody seems to be able to get close. The known scientific institutions have been dissolved. I have heard rumors that some of the world's political leaders -after having successfully escaped to underground bunkers- are debating the use of nuclear warheads on the world's major cities. In the days before the collapse, several independent journalists broke stories of the global elite'& their secret meetings, which, many now suspect were some sort of black magic ceremonies dedicated to Chthon. Of course, at the time, these journalists were written off as paranoid 'conspiracy theorists' and further ostracized from society.

May God have mercy on our souls...
